Neograft Hair Restoration

When to consider Neograft hair restoration

As we age, our hairline tends to recede, negatively impacting our self-esteem. Losing around 50-100 hairs daily is normal, but persistent hair loss can lead to thinning and balding. By the time men reach 40, approximately 40% experience balding, often starting at the frontal hairline. Moreover, around 85% of men will have hair loss before reaching 50 years of age.

It’s worth noting that hair loss is also prevalent in women. While some women may experience frontal baldness, most cases of female-pattern baldness entail thinning over the crown or top of the head. Unlike men, women’s hair loss can be diffuse, leading to generalized alopecia or more localized to the frontal region.

How It Helps

Hair is an essential expression of personality, youth, and style. Whether it’s short-term or long-term, losing your hair can be stressful. Modern hair transplant techniques like Neograft can turn back the clock.

Neograft Hair restoration surgery by Dr. Diana Ponsky can restore a frontal hairline and add density to the mid-scalp and crown area, resulting in thicker hair and a more defined hairline. Most patients who are good candidates for hair transplantation procedures are delighted with the final results, which appear natural, thanks to today’s technology.

What to expect before Neograft hair restoration

Bring photos of your face from earlier years to compare the shape and position of your original hairline. Your hair growth (and loss) pattern and strand density will be evaluated. Careful examination during your consultation helps ensure the final result is natural and undetectable.

What to expect during Neograft surgery

Local anesthesia and oral sedation are standard during Neograft hair surgery. If the frontal hairline is to undergo hair transplantation, double-board certified Dr. Ponsky will work with you to create an improved, natural, and age-appropriate profile and hairline. The hair along the back of the head is shaved down with hair clippers, and local anesthesia is injected into the scalp. The device is employed to harvest the hair follicles, which are kept viable in cooled saline. The grafts will be implanted into small slits made in the balding area of the scalp, individually placed in the scalp by hand with small forceps, allowing for precise placement and avoidance of noticeable grafts as was common with older techniques.

What to expect after Neograft hair restoration

At the end of the hair restoration procedure, a light dressing is applied overnight, and the patient is seen the following day in the office for dressing removal. There is usually minimal discomfort and swelling of the scalp following Neograft hair restoration, and most patients will take oral pain medication for the first 12-24 hours. You can return to light physical exercise within two weeks and all physical activities within one month. The hair shafts will usually shed within a few weeks following transplantation and begin to grow again at about three months. The final results will be seen within 12-14 months after the procedure as the hairs grow and thrive.
