Neck Lift
When to consider a neck lift
LOCATED IN BEACHWOOD | SERVING CLEVELAND AND NORTHEAST OHIO
How often do you forget to extend cream, serum, or sunscreen application down your neck? The delicate skin of the neck is especially vulnerable to the effects of aging, genetics, and environmental influence, but it is often forgotten in regular skincare regimes. Unfortunately, It is ineffective to exercise neck muscles to keep them taut and toned. As a result, many patients experience skin laxity, deep creases, softening muscles, and the development of fatty deposits on the neck and jawline over time. Neck cording, or platysmal bands, can stretch from the chin and jaw to the bottom of the neck.
A neck lift by double-board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Diana Ponsky treats excess skin on the neck by separating the skin from underlying tissues and creating tighter, more youthful contours by carefully lifting and draping the skin into a new position. A neck lift also addresses fullness under the chin and may be appropriate for younger patients interested in improving their jawline and neck contour. Our advanced techniques will smooth and rejuvenate your neck for a natural-looking enhancement personalized and tailored to your anatomy and goals.
How It Helps
There are several variations of this procedure depending on individual needs. A neck lift can help eliminate the look of prominent jowls, loose neck skin, and fat accumulation under the chin. Loose or sagging skin from weakened or loose neck muscles that cause the “turkey wattle” can be addressed, along with the appearance of neckbands. A neck lift will also diminish age-related wrinkling and creasing in this area and provide a smoother, slimmer profile and increased definition along the jawline.
BEFORE
What to expect before A neck lift
Dr. Diana Ponsky and her skilled clinical team will begin your consultation by asking about your goals and expectations, then discuss any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors. After examining, photographing, and analyzing your face, expect to discuss potential options, a recommended course of treatment, and outcomes, risks, or potential complications.
DURING
What to expect during a neck lift
A neck lift can be performed with local anesthesia and oral sedation, but it is more frequently performed with IV sedation to optimize comfort during the procedure. Incisions are made under the chin and around the ears to address excess skin on the neck. After the underlying platysma muscle is tightened, the excess skin is trimmed, and the hidden incisions are sutured. Sometimes, fullness under the chin can be addressed with an incision under the chin alone. Liposuction of the neck can be performed through tiny hidden incisions under the chin or jawline.
AFTER
What to expect after a neck lift
Expect to wear a gentle compression bandage for three days, then at night for the remainder of the week unless instructed otherwise. Recovery takes time, and it is essential to be patient with the process. During recovery at home, plan to have ice packs, gauze and towels, and antibacterial ointment for the incision sites on hand. Plan to keep your head elevated for a time, including while sleeping. Most people can return to work in 10-14 days.
