When to consider a mid-facelift
LOCATED IN BEACHWOOD | SERVING CLEVELAND AND NORTHEAST OHIO
Sagging cheeks and deep smile lines are a common complaint in both men and women as we age. Over time, our once-plump cheeks flatten, and the creases next to the nose and mouth deepen. A mid-facelift smoothes and lifts the area of the face from the corners of your eyes to the corners of your mouth, including the nose, cheeks, and the area above your upper lip.
Sometimes called a cheek lift, this technique performed by double-board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Diana Ponsky offers incredibly natural results. The mid-portion of the face is lifted and secured higher on the face. Precision and delicate attention to the anatomy of the cheeks offer a natural, youthful appearance.
What is a Mid-Facelift?
As the name suggests, a mid-facelift primarily targets the middle section of the face. It focuses on rejuvenating the area around the cheeks, the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth), and the lower eyelids. The mid-facelift aims to restore volume to the cheeks, elevate sagging tissues, and provide a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
Why Consider a Mid-Facelift?
As we age, the soft tissues in our face begin to descend due to gravity and the loss of collagen and elastin. This descent often manifests most prominently in the middle section of the face, leading to sagging cheeks, deepening nasolabial folds, and a tired appearance. A mid-facelift is specifically designed to address these concerns, offering a solution that:
- Elevates and repositions sagging cheeks
- Reduces the prominence of nasolabial folds
- Enhances the overall contour of the mid-face
- Provides a more refreshed and youthful look
A mid-facelift can be an excellent option for those who feel their central facial region shows premature aging or are not yet ready for a full facelift.
How It Helps
Nasolabial lines on either side of the mouth, commonly called laugh lines, are lessened by a midface lift. The skin of the cheek area is smoothed and may be treated with subdermal fillers or fat grafting to recreate fullness. However, a midface lift will not address signs of aging in the forehead, jowls, and neck.
What to expect before a Mid-facelift
Cleveland plastic facial surgeon Dr. Ponsky will begin your consultation by asking about your goals and expectations, then discuss any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors. After examining, photographing, and measuring your face, expect to discuss potential options, a recommended course of treatment, and outcomes, risks, or potential complications.
What to expect during a Mid-facelift
Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgery. Depending on the individualized treatment, multiple things may occur during the procedure. A mid-facelift generally begins with small incisions behind the hairline. The sagging cheek is lifted, creating a smoother and firmer surface. To improve contour, auxiliary procedures might be offered with a mid-face lift. Facial implants or fat transfer might be used, and fillers may help with wrinkle reduction. Lastly, resurfacing techniques may be used to improve skin tone and texture.
What to expect after a Mid-facelift
Dressings will be placed over the incisions, and pain medications are prescribed to help ease discomfort. While individual healing times vary, the swelling and bruising should be minimal. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for a week. Makeup is usually enough to cover any signs of surgery until your face heals completely. Follow-up appointments are suggested for about a year to measure progress.
